About Us
On evenings and weekends we trade the urban corporate scene for life on our hobby farm.
In 2007 we bought our house (insert link to Not So Big House; Farm House) just outside of Des Moines with plans to turn the property into our dream of a hobby farm. Our initial goal was to get the horse out of the boarding stable and home with us. We built post and rail fencing to line our drive and contain horses. Not long after bringing our horse home, we added more horses, dogs and now goats.
Not long after we moved into our country house, we discovered the wind was pretty strong out here.. And it is pretty consistent. The need to have air conditioning on in the summer is pretty rare. We open the windows and let the breeze flow through, nearly every day in the summer. The kids can fly kites pretty much any day. We were jokingly calling our little hobby farm Wind Ranch. Pretty soon, everyone who came out started calling our place Wind Ranch. So, now it is official… welcome to Wind Ranch.
What do we do out here? We offer horse boarding, but to only 1 horse at a time. Our acreage is not large and we do not want to over populate the land. Not all of the property is fenced in and we enjoy the prairie grasses blowing in the winds.. We are just starting out with Nigerian Dwarf goats and plan on breeding in the near future. See a photo of Awesomow our Buck.
Our family is primarily pescetarian, meaning we do not eat animals or birds (however we do enjoy fish and seafood) and go for the organics. Since we changed our lifestyle we have been healthier and happier. We also have learned the art of square foot gardening and composting. We have 2 daughters under 10 yrs old who enjoy everything country as much as we do.

Greetings: Your site popped up after my inquiry about “Mayflower” connections. We are descended from Pasco WHITFORD and I would love to know your findings regarding Myles Standish. I do a lot of family research and feel like I am so close to making a “Mayflower” connection, but the WHITFORD family is sometimes confusing, especially all the “Pascos”:( Hoping to hear from you!! Liz Vandam, Minneapolis ps–love your site!!
We have an old family bible with linage scribed in it. I can scan an image to help you do some research, also our links on ancestory.com is shared. I did share my research with the mayflower society and they approved it, but wanted me to add reference to a document that I have not purchased yet. I will look for that email they sent…
